A neighborhood sento in Furumachi, Kesennuma, since 1958.
About Tomonoyu
Tomonoyu opened in 1958. In 1966 it became the first bathhouse in the Tohoku region to install showers.
The 2011 tsunami stopped 300 meters short of the building. We reopened on March 24, the day after running water came back.

Manabu Onodera, owner
Born in Kesennuma in 1957, took over in 2010. "Meeting people who come from all over, every day, is the fun part."
Kiyoko, founder
Opened Tomonoyu in 1958.
Family
Run by the same family since 1958.
Koji Yoshikawa
Moved here from Tokyo. "Manabu said we could try anything, so we were free to think."
Yukari Orikasa
Moved here from Sendai. "We started because we thought people would come to love this town."
A tuna fisherman
"It feels like coming home."
Student volunteers
They have been coming since 2011.
